James is a Partner at Transcend Corporateand has 20 years of experience in international mergers & acquisitions, business strategy and senior finance roles. He specialises in Industrial Products, building on his 12 years of experience with IMI plc, the global engineering group.

James started his career in the accountancy profession with Andersen/Deloitte in Assurance & Business Advisory, then later moved into Transaction Services where he discovered a passion for M&A. He has worked for many years in Corporate M&A roles for both CelesioAG (Wholesale, distribution and retail of pharmaceuticals) and IMI plc (Industrial flow control products). He has held a variety of senior finance roles with IMI plc at divisional, regional and company levels. Most recently he was the Finance & IT Director of a specialist valve manufacturing business.

James is a graduate of the University of Nottingham (Industrial Economics), and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW).

Transaction experience includes:

  • Disposal of IMI  SSF, a UK manufacturer of bespoke fasteners primarily for use in the Oil & Gas sector,  to  IPP  Group
  • Disposal of IMI  Scott, a UK manufacturer of precision wire, to  Broadhurst  Industries
  • Disposal  of  Eley  (Birmingham), a UK manufacturer of  competition ammunition, to  LDC for  £42m
  • Acquisition of Zimmermann  &  Jansen, a German manufacturer of valves  and flow  control  equipment, for €135  million
  • Acquisition of three foodservice  equipment  parts distribution  companies in North America (NASS  Parts (Orlando), Restaurant Appliance Services (Seattle) and Pacific Coast Parts (Los Angeles)
  • Disposal  of a  UK  building HVAC maintenance business,  CommtechMaintenance, to Inviron
  • $29m  acquisition of  a 20%  minority interest  in  Display Technologies,  a  New York  based  merchandising display  business
  • $60m acquisition of Kloehn  Company, a manufacturer of specialist  pumping and  fluid  handling systems  for  the life  sciences  sector (Las Vegas)
  • Acquisition of a Permanent  Point-of-Purchase  (“POP”) displays  company  –  CPI (New  York)
  • Acquisition of Kemofarmacija, a Slovenian  pharmaceutical  wholesaler with  subsidiaries  in Croatia  and  Romania –  c.€50  million.
  • Acquisition of Cohens  and  Scholes, a UK retail  pharmacy  chain, for £110  million
  • Acquisition of Pharmexx, a German pharmaceutical  contract  sales organization.
  • Financial due diligence (“FDD”)  of  a designer  and  wholesaler of  collectibles,  Country Artists  Limited,  acquired by  Isis  Equity Partners
  • FDD  of an  IT  network maintenance  provider,  Trend Communications  Limited,  acquired by  Phoenix  IT Limited  for  £22m
  • FDD  of a  value-added  distributor of  IT  hardware in  the  Netherlands, Pluz  B.V., acquired  by  Specialist Computer  Holdings  plc
  • FDD  of a  distributor  of home  entertainment  products, THE  Limited,  to support  the  £28m equity  investment  by 3i
  • FDD  of a  chemical  manufacturing business,  Hickson  & Welch,  acquired  by Dunedin  Capital  Partners and  the  MBO team  for  £21m
  • Vendor  due diligence for  the  €1.1bn disposal  of  the industrial  steam  turbines division  of  Alstom to  Siemens  AG
  • FDD of  an equipment  leasing  business, Lex  Harvey  Limited, acquired  by  Finning Holdings  Limited  from RAC  Plc
  • Financial  and operational  review  of  Dynacast  Ltd on  behalf  of  Cinven
